SoloCorps interviewers Carolyn Elefant and Lisa Solomon trained their video camera this morning on Melissa Stockman Maher, a solo in Roseville, Minn. Maher shared why she likes being a solo—the flexibility and being able to handle client matters from beginning to end. And she discussed what she thinks is a pretty common weakness among solos: bookkeeping.

“It turns out that a lot of lawyers are really bad accountants,” Maher says, noting that bookkeeping is the one part of her practice in which she relies on outside help.
